2024 Forthcoming In-Person Events, Workshops, and Appearances
July 10th: Medicinal and Edible Plant Walk with Dana O’Driscoll. Blue Spruce County Park, Indiana County. 5:30-7:30 pm. Free to the public. Hosted through Friends of the Parks (Indiana County). Join us on an interactive walk to learn about 15-20 edible and medicinal plants that are in season during the summer months. The plant walk will include the ethics, best practices, and tools of wild food and medicine foraging. The walk will also cover plant identification practices, botany, and plant and local ecology. We will place a special emphasis on harvesting invasive plants as well as reciprocating care for the local ecosystem. Plants covered in this walk include monarda, willow, hawthorn, wood nettle, elderberry, mayapple, jewelweed, spruce, plantain, and many more! Please have appropriate footwear for light hiking and bring bug spray. The walk will be canceled in the event of an active thunderstorm. Free class and open to the public; no pre-registration required.
July 16th: Medicinal Mushrooms of Western PA and Making a Double Extraction Tincture with Dana O’Driscoll through the Western Pennsylvania Mushroom Club. Pennsylvania is one of the best places to find medicinal mushrooms in North America and we have a very diverse set of medicinal mushrooms. This presentation will cover the local medicinal mushrooms and their healing properties, including the best ways of preparing and using their medicine. The workshop will emphasize the most potent kind of medical mushroom preparation: the double-extracted tincture. Dana will demonstrate each step of the double extract tincture-making process. Free class through WMPC.
August 13th: Backyard Herbalism and Medicine Making. With Dana O’Driscoll. August 13th, 5-7pm. (Indiana County, located 15 min from Indiana, PA). In this 2-hour hands-on class, you will be introduced to the most common lawn and garden plants that are found in almost every lawn or garden in Pennsylvania. We will specifically cover plant identification, harvest, their medicinal uses (material medical), and learn how to make a range of basic plant medicines including a backyard healing salve, jewelweed-infused witch hazel for poison ivy, and stomach-ease tea. Students will be able to take three herbal creations home with them. Class cost $25 + 5 for materials fee. Sign up at the PA School of Herbalism
August 26th: Fall Edible and Medicinal Plant Walk with Dana O’Driscoll. August 26th, 2024, Monday 5:30 – 7:30pm, Yellow Creek State Park Lakeview Pavilion. Join us on an interactive walk to learn about 15-20 edible and medicinal plants that are in season during the fall months. The plant walk will include the ethics, best practices, and tools of wild food and medicine foraging. The walk will also cover plant identification practices, botany, and plant and local ecology. We will place a special emphasis on harvesting invasive plants as well as reciprocating care for the local ecosystem. Plants covered in this walk include oak (acorns), hickory, spicebush, autumn olive, wild grape, witch hazel, wintergreen, partridgeberry, goldenrod, and many more! Please have appropriate footwear for light hiking and bring bug spray. The walk will be canceled in the event of an active thunderstorm. Free class and open to the public; no pre-registration is required.
September or October TBD: Plant Walk for Friends of White’s Woods with Dana O’Driscoll, Free and open to the public. Details and date TBD. No pre-registration is required.
October 3rd-6th: Medicinal and Edible Plant Walks at the Mountaincraft and Music Gathering. October 3-6, 2024. Dana O’Driscoll will be offering plant walks at the forthcoming Mountaincraft Earth Skills gathering. I will be offering classes on Friday and Saturday at the gathering!

I am a regular contributor to Spirituality and Health magazine writing about druidry, plant spirits, nature spirituality, and herbalism. You can see my full list of articles here.
I also write a regular column titled “Roots, Shoots and Spirits” for Plant Healer Quarterly. This column explores the practices of magical herbalism, connecting to deep plant teachings and inner plant wisdom, and saving the world through plants.

I appeared on Rosalee De La Floret’s “Herbs with Rosalee” Podcast in November 2021. We had a delightful discussion about one of my very favorite plants: New England Aster. We discuss recipes for New England Aster, how to use Aster, and how to harvest and grow it. I also shared a discussion about the difference between herbalism and conventional/allopathic medicine, and my approach to making offerings and nature reciprocation.
